This is turning out to be friends and family week. (Check out
my post on Jess's book, and you might get a
free copy!) My sister, Lauren, wrote this post and I love it. She is amazing. So grateful we are related so she is stuck with me forever and ever. Leave it to her to wax poetic about
Twilight. I
might've teared up a bit reading this because while yes - it's about Twilight - it brought back great memories of laughing, obsessing, freaking out, and most importantly
bonding over these books with my sister. I read all four with Audrey asleep on my chest, just days old. All I have to say is
Lauren - get your blog going again!! After you read this you'll agree.
Enjoy.
So Beth and I are going through a bit of a hard time.
It's the end of an era, an obsession, and it's bittersweet; the END of Twilight.
We loved the books, and always looked forward to our annual trip to the movies to root for Team Edward.
And just for the record, it's always been Edward...always.
Being
the classic little Sister that I am, I started reading Twilight simply
because my Sister was doing it and I wanted to do whatever she was
doing. I was hooked and finished the entire series across two
weeks of marathon reading sessions and an overdose of Frappuccinos to
keep the pages turning. At the time, I had started a new job that was
very demanding, and reading was my escape. It was the perfect companion
that served me well, as my flourishing imagination helped to cope with
the stress of the day.
The
icing on the cake was that our love for these stories kept Beth and I
on the phone DAILY. Let me remind you that we are on separate coasts
and with jobs, kids and time zones, this is quite an accomplishment.
Every time I moved up a chapter I had to call her to discuss the
outcome, and she was right there with me. Something we both loved,
something that was fun, and although not a literary masterpiece,
something that served us in our own ways when we needed a reprieve from
our everyday realities.
When
I think of all these gifts that were given to me because of what
someone else created from their own mind, I can't help but ask why can't
I do that for myself?
Why can't I set aside time each day to develop my self, to think, to create, to impact others and myself?
What holds me back?
What other gifts are waiting for me and what keeps me from finding them?
Why do I rely on what someone else has already created, when it actually only distracts me from doing it myself?
Along
with every single book on our bookshelves, Twilight is about having an
idea, running with it, and never never never giving up.
Who knows where it can take you? Let's see where it takes us.
